Everyone at Joppa High School knows Mr. Jones as one
of the two great math teachers that attempt to teach math to students.
Richard Jones grew up in Johnston City doing his
hobbies hunting and fishing. He admired his father growing up because he
was an educator and he did a very good job at raising Mr. Jones. He went
to college at John A. Logan College and SIUC. Mr. Jones did not always
want to be a teacher. He majored in electrical engineering until 1985 when
he finally headed towards his fate of teaching math to Joppa students by
switching his major to math education.
Mr. Jones has been married since 1994, has two sons,
two beagles, and a rabbit named “Bugs.”
Mr. Jones says he enjoys teaching because everyday is
different and exciting. Although, he says that he does not like it when
something distracts him from teaching, such as extra paperwork, and
students misbehaving. Mr. Jones has enjoyed teaching at JHS for the past
15 years. |
