Kim Cates is the Guidance Counselor and Business
Teacher here at Joppa High School. Mrs. Cates grew up in Carmi, Illinois, and graduated
from Carmi-White Co. High School. After high school, she attended Eastern Illinois University, in Charleston, Illinois.
She is married, has her twenty-month-old baby, no pets, and one sister
that is three and a half years older than she is. Her favorite thing about
her job is spending time with teenagers and helping them think about and
plan for their futures. She also loves to spend time with teens, teaching
them new things that they can use throughout their lives. She is
instrumental at the high school in planning events to expand the horizons
of students. Among these were a trip to New York City to see the
Broadway
play Fiddler on the Roof and Southeastern Missouri University to see
the stage production of The Tender Land.
In her spare time, she likes to go and spend some
time playing tennis.
Mrs. Cates is still teaching here at JHS, and we hope
she will stay forever.
